DIRECTOR OF APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT
The selected candidate will provide broad leadership in the creation of innovative, market-oriented technologies for application in the coatings, adhesives, sealants, and plastic additives markets. An important member of the Vertellus specialty Materials leadership team, you will drive the development and execution of a technology strategy that aligns with business requirements. Other primary functions include, but are not limited to:
- Managing application laboratory staff and budgets, as well as mentoring and managing a team of research professionals
- Translating business strategy into an application technology strategy
- Partnering with the commercial team to identify market needs and understand technology trends in our segments
- Building and upgrading our applications development capability
- Establishing risk-based priorities based on market and technology probabilities of success.
- Applying innovative strategies for research work execution, leveraging not only internal resources but those of consultants, universities, and trade groups
- Being an active participant in the stage gate new product development process for the business, while collaborating with the global technology community on best practices and resource distribution
- Managing and coaching a team of research professionals
Qualified candidates must possess:
- Subject matter expertise in one of our core areas of focus of coatings additives, plastics compounding, or plasticizers or a directly related area
- 15+ years’ experience in technology leadership with an extensive background experience within the chemical industry and markets of interest
- Minimum of a master’s degree in chemistry (PhD preferred; BS/Chemical Engineering degree would be considered with supporting experience)
- Demonstrated experience in translating customer or market needs into technology solutions, managing technology professionals and working with customers to develop joint technology approaches and programs
- Strong communication skills that support interaction across a global work environment
