Market Development Manager – Plastics
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Market Development Manager will be accountable for working closely with the Business Director on all facets of market development and business growth. Focus will include new business generation based on knowledge of the plastics market and value-added potential of the technology offering, and managing application development and new product development efforts at key customers. The Market Development Manager will consistently develop and deliver new application and product opportunities that leverage Vertellus’ technology and convert into commercial results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identifying, prioritizing and developing new application and business opportunities through market research, market development work, evaluation of new applications and championing of new product development programs using stage gate process, effective marketing to potential customers, and acting as liaison with technical teams from development to product launch
Based on in-depth market, customer and competitive analysis develop and implement individual product line strategies - including product positioning, pricing and channels/routes to market with the objective of maximizing the growth potential and profitability of the product line. Types of analyses would include supply/demand analysis, market segmentation, development of value in use based value propositions
Coordinating and leading market development and new product programs
Working with sales team and technical teams to develop deeper understanding of customer needs, competitive alternatives and generating plans to win in the marketplace
Supporting the development and implementation of market communications and promotional activities
Continually improving plastics business processes
Travel up to 50% of the time
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years in a marketing or business development role in a specialty chemical or plastics company (MBA and/or additional successful business experience highly desirable)
- Global B2B marketing and business development experience, preferably with multinational, blue chip companies
- Experience in managing growth programs including project management and cross-functional team leadership
- Demonstrated ability to manage global teams
- Comfort and capability with working in a matrix organization
- Effective interpersonal, verbal/written communication, presentation and report writing skills
- Strong market research and analysis capabilities
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations.
- Knowledge of Regulatory Affairs and IP
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
